ACNE TREATMENT/BLUE LIGHT THERAPY

Blue light therapy is a type of light therapy most commonly used to address acne breakouts.

The wavelength of blue light has an antimicrobial effect, making it effective at killing several types of bacteria that can collect in your pores and oil glands and cause breakouts.

In one study, people with acne who were treated for five weeks with blue light therapy saw improvement in 77% of cases.

Blue light therapy also helps condition your skin, getting rid of free radicals that oxidize and age your face. The treatment also has anti-inflammatory benefits, which decreases other symptoms of acne, such as redness.

Blue light therapy sessions last 15 to 30 minutes each.

Rosacea (pronounced “roh-ZAY-sha”) is a chronic and potentially life-disruptive disorder primarily of the facial skin, often characterized by flare-ups and remissions. Many have observed that it typically begins any time after age 30 as a redness on the cheeks, nose, chin or forehead that may come and go. In some cases, rosacea may also occur on the neck, chest, scalp or ears.

Over time, the redness tends to become ruddier and more persistent, and visible blood vessels may appear. Rosacea is a common but often misunderstood condition which is estimated to affect 45 million people worldwide mostly fair-skinned people. It begins as erythema with flushing and redness on the central face and across the cheeks, nose or forehead, but can also commonly affect the neck and chest. It can consist of facial thread veins called telangiectasia, in some cases pustules, papules (acne rosacea) and, less commonly, a bulbous nose.

Rosacea may be hereditary or as a result of a variety of factors including damage from sun exposure, wind, and extremes of temperature. The overuse of steroid creams and certain autoimmune conditions may also induce rosacea. Often the exact cause is unknown and may just be part of the natural aging process. Rosacea is effectively treated with Intense Pulse Light (IPL) with minimal downtime or risk.

We also stock skincare products that will help with the general redness of rosacea.

Microdermabrasion is a noninvasive form of exfoliation and mild skin resurfacing that removes dead skin cells from the Stratum Corneum, the outer layer of the skin. The Stratum Corneum is the layer of the skin affected by fine lines, wrinkles, tone, texture and blemishes. The concentrated microdermabrasion treatment exfoliates the skin layer to break apart these common imperfections. This then triggers the body’s healing mechanisms, causing the removed dead skin cells to be rapidly replaced with healthy, new ones.

Microdermabrasion provides several important benefits for the skin. The treatment smooths away dull and rough skin texture, and it softens the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and blemishes. The treatment also improves the skin’s tone by fading the appearance of brown spots, and skin blemishes.

Intense Pulse Light Therapy (IPL) for Spider Veins

Intense Pulse Light Therapy (IPL) uses a spectrum of light shined onto the skin to treat a variety of skin and vein issues. IPL delivers a concentrated pulse of light that heats and damages blood vessel walls, shrinking the targeted veins and making them disappear. Because the light is concentrated and focused, IPL treatment does not damage the surrounding tissue.

The spectrum of light applied with an IPL device, and therefore can use it to treat a variety of conditions. IPL is used for photorejuvenation where longer wavelengths of light are applied to the skin (usually the face) in order to destroy old collagen and stimulate the production of new collagen, leading to firmer and softer skin. IPL is also used to treat spider veins, reticular veins, age spots, and non-cancerous skin lesions.

A photofacial is a 15-20 minute procedure in which an intense pulse of light is used to penetrate deep into the skin. IPL (Intense Pulse Light) treatment causes collagen and blood vessels below the epidermis to constrict, reduce redness and age lines. The procedure involves only minimal discomfort, while the redness and swelling that sometimes occur after treatment disappear shortly.

Most benefits of a photofacial occur gradually in the weeks following treatment.

IPL treatment involves relatively little discomfort and no downtime. Unlike many laser techniques, the procedure is non-ablative, meaning no skin is removed during treatment.

IPL laser hair removal can permanently reduce hair growth through the process of broad-spectrum light being applied to the surface of the skin targeting melanin. This light travels through the skin until it strikes the hair shafts or the bulb (root). The bulb is usually where the highest concentration of melanin is located. As the light absorbs the bulb most of the hair shafts are heated, eliminating the hair-producing papilla.

For IPL (Intense Pulse Light) treatments are an average of 8–10 sessions or more are required to remove most visible hair.

Treatment sessions are usually 3 to 6 weeks apart.
